Annapurna 1 Expedition

The world's tenth highest mountain peak, Annapurna (8091m) is popular not only because of its attractive height but also for its heaven-like beauty. it was the first 8000m above the mountain to be successfully climbed by the Mountaineers in 1950 AD. The name Annapurna has been derived from Sanskrit word that literally means "full of food", but is normally translated as "Goddess of Harvests". With the sky-piercing height of 8091m, Annapurna has been standing tall and beautiful in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal. This exquisite mountain was first conquered by Maurice Herzog and his team in 1950. Annapurna massif has many high peaks; five are labeled using some variations of the name Annapurna. The massif is 55 km long and bounded Kali Gandaki George on the west, Marsyangdi River on the north and east and Pokhara on the south. The entire massif and surrounding area are protected within the Annapurna Conservation Area which the first and largest conservation area in Nepal.
