Valley of Glaciers
The closest Himalayan trek to Kathmandu — and one of the most quietly beautiful. The Langtang Valley climbs through Tamang villages, rhododendron forest and yak pasture to the Kyanjin Gompa monastery, ringed by 6,000 and 7,000-metre peaks.

Hand-crafted itineraries that start in Langtang Valley Treks — from a single sunrise day-trip to multi-week Himalayan expeditions.

The Langtang Valley begins just 32 km north of Kathmandu — closer to the capital than any other major trekking region. Langtang Lirung, the valley's signature peak, rises to 7,234 m. The region was Nepal's first Himalayan national park, established in 1976 across 1,710 km² of forest, glacier and grassland.
The valley is home to the Tamang people, a Tibetan-Buddhist ethnic group whose villages of stone and timber line the trail. Their name means "horse rider" in Tibetan — a reference to their ancestors, who served as cavalry in Tibet's medieval armies. Today the Tamang are Nepal's largest indigenous trekking community, running most of the teahouses.
The April 2015 earthquake devastated Langtang Village, killing more than 300 residents and trekkers in a single landslide. The community rebuilt with extraordinary determination — every teahouse on the trail today was constructed after 2016. Visiting Langtang directly supports that recovery. The classic Langtang Valley Trek (7–10 days) culminates at Kyanjin Gompa, a 4th-century monastery at 3,870 m where the trail ends and the high peaks begin.

Spring rhododendrons and crisp autumn clarity define the two best windows. Winter is cold but accessible for fit trekkers.
