The Hidden Lake and Glacier Trek is a 17-day Annapurna off-beat route that extends the Khopra Ridge corridor beyond the well-trodden trail to reach the little-known Hidden Lake at 4,250 m, sitting directly below the glaciers of Annapurna South (7,219 m) inside the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trek climbs through the large Gurung village of Ghandruk (1,950 m), gains the forested ridge at Tadapani (2,590 m) and Bayeli Kharka (2,900 m), then pushes onto Khopra Ridge (3,870 m) and the sacred Kaire Lake (4,200 m) before crossing open glacial terrain to the Hidden Lake itself.
The upper section, from Celli Kharka (3,850 m) to Hidden Lake (4,250 m) and the descent to Annapurna South Base Camp (3,400 m), is a camping traverse on a route used by few trekking parties each season. The Annapurna South massif fills the skyline for the final four days of walking, with Machhapuchhre (6,993 m) and Hiunchuli (6,441 m) framing the glaciers overhead. The descent comes down through Chhomrong (2,100 m), the hot springs at Jhinu Danda (1,220 m), and out to Pokhara.
Two permits cover this route: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the TIMS card. The lower days follow the community lodge trail of the Khopra Ridge route; the upper days above Bayeli Kharka use tented camps with a cook crew, since permanent lodges do not exist past Khopra Ridge. The sections below cover difficulty, permits, camping logistics, seasons and what to pack.
