Trip Overview
About the Nepal Exploration
Nepal Exploration is a 10-day tour that strings together the country's headline experiences: the heritage of the Kathmandu Valley, the lakes and mountain views of Pokhara, white-water rafting on the Seti River, a jungle safari in Chitwan, and a Himalayan sunrise from Nagarkot. It is built for travellers who want culture, light adventure and wildlife in one trip rather than a single long trek.
The tour opens with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu, then moves to Pokhara for a boat ride on Phewa Lake and a short walk up to Australian Camp (about 2,060 m) for a close mountain view. From there it runs a half-day raft on the Seti River and a two-night safari in Chitwan National Park, home to the one-horned rhinoceros and the Bengal tiger, before finishing at the ridge village of Nagarkot, where a clear dawn can reveal a long stretch of the Himalaya.
The tour is easy and low-altitude, topping out around 2,175 m at Nagarkot, so it suits all ages and needs no trekking experience. Most days mix sightseeing with a short walk or activity. The sections below cover the entry permits and park fees, the best season, transport and what to pack.

Everything you need to know
In-depth guides on accommodation, food, permits, insurance and special considerations — tap any topic to expand.
Nepal Exploration is an easy, low-altitude tour, so altitude and fitness are not real concerns; the highest stop is Nagarkot at about 2,175 m. Most days combine sightseeing with one light activity, and you sleep in comfortable hotels rather than basic lodges.
The activities are gentle: a two-hour walk up to Australian Camp for a mountain view, a half-day raft on the Seti River with calmer grade 2 to 3 rapids, and a jeep and canoe safari in Chitwan. None of it needs trekking experience, and the tour suits families, older travellers and anyone wanting a broad first look at Nepal. Swotah guides handle the logistics so you can keep the pace relaxed.
Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for Nepal Exploration, with clear skies for the mountain views at Australian Camp and Nagarkot and comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and safari. Autumn gives the sharpest Himalayan views after the monsoon, including the best chance of seeing Everest from Nagarkot on a clear dawn.
Winter (December to February) is cool and clear in the hills and pleasant in lowland Chitwan, though Nagarkot mornings are cold. The summer monsoon (June to August) brings warm, wet weather and bigger rivers for rafting, but hazier mountain views. The season cards above show the month-by-month picture.
Most travellers enter Nepal on a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, available for 15, 30 or 90 days, so bring a passport valid for at least six months, a passport photo and the fee in cash. Swotah advises on the latest visa rules before you travel.
The tour includes a couple of entry permits handled for you: the Chitwan National Park entry fee for the safari, and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) for the short walk to Australian Camp near Pokhara. Sightseeing at the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Sites also carries small entry fees. Swotah arranges the permits and includes or itemises these fees so there are no surprises.
Accommodation on Nepal Exploration is comfortable 3-star hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Nagarkot, each with private bathrooms, hot water and Wi-Fi. In Chitwan you stay at a jungle lodge near the national park, in keeping with the setting but still comfortable.
Nagarkot hotels are chosen for their mountain outlook, so a clear dawn gives a Himalayan panorama from the room or terrace. Upgrades to higher-category or boutique hotels are possible at most stops on request. Rooms are booked ahead, so peak-season availability is secured in advance.
Food on Nepal Exploration ranges from Nepali staples like dal bhat (lentils, rice and curry) and Newari dishes to international menus at the hotels, so there is plenty of choice and vegetarian options throughout. Breakfast is included at the hotels, and Chitwan is full board as part of the lodge stay.
The cities and Pokhara have cafes, bakeries and restaurants for lunch and dinner on your own, which keeps the tour flexible. Bottled and treated drinking water is available everywhere, and your guide can point you to reliable places to eat. Tell us in advance about any dietary needs.
Nepal Exploration runs on private vehicles, with a driver and guide, so the road legs between Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Nagarkot are comfortable and flexible. The Kathmandu to Pokhara road takes about six to seven hours, and the lowland drives to Chitwan are similar.
A 25-minute domestic flight between Kathmandu and Pokhara is available as an upgrade for travellers short on time. Within the cities, sightseeing is by private car with short walks at each site. Mountain roads can be slow, especially in the monsoon, so the schedule allows realistic drive times.
Nepal Exploration packs four very different sides of Nepal into ten days. In Kathmandu you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Durbar Squares, the Boudhanath and Swayambhunath stupas and the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath. In Pokhara you boat on Phewa Lake and walk up to Australian Camp for a close view of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre skyline.
The Seti River raft is a half-day on calmer grade 2 to 3 water, a good introduction to Nepali rafting. In Chitwan National Park you ride jeep and canoe safaris in search of one-horned rhino, deer, crocodile and, with luck, a Bengal tiger, and meet the Tharu community. The tour ends at Nagarkot, a ridge east of Kathmandu known for sunrise views along the Himalaya, including Everest on the clearest mornings.
Nepal Exploration is led by licensed English-speaking guides, with specialist staff for each activity: a rafting crew on the Seti, and an experienced jungle guide for the Chitwan safaris. Swotah's guides hold Ministry of Tourism licences and know the heritage sites, the wildlife and the logistics.
Because the tour is vehicle-based with only short walks, porters are not needed, and you keep your own light luggage. If you would prefer a guide who speaks another language, ask and we will see what we can arrange.
Connectivity on Nepal Exploration is easy, because the tour stays in cities, towns and well-served tourist areas. Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell both give 4G across Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Nagarkot, and Swotah provides a tourist SIM.
All the hotels and the Chitwan lodge have Wi-Fi and power for charging, so staying connected is straightforward. A universal travel adapter is worth carrying for the local sockets.
Responsible travel keeps Nepal's heritage sites, Chitwan's wildlife and its communities healthy for the future. Carry a reusable bottle, follow park rules and your guide's lead on the safari, dress modestly at temples, remove your shoes where asked, and ask before photographing people.
Tipping is customary though not mandatory: a common guideline is 10 to 15% of the trip cost, shared among the guide, driver, rafting crew and jungle staff. Tips go directly to the workforce that runs the tour. Booking with a registered operator like Swotah also means permits, park fees and staff insurance are handled properly.
