Everything You Need to Know About Solo Travel in Nepal
Solo Travel “Travelling to Destination Voluntarily Without Anybody’s Help.”
Thinking about solo travel, you might get agitated. You start questioning yourself; are you going to enjoy traveling solo? Will it be safe? Will you be able to reach the destination you want? Let me tell you something, Solo travel is a way of exploring yourself. Solo travel not only brings exposure but also develops self-esteem within oneself.
Can You Still Travel Solo in Nepal? The 2026 Rules
Yes, with one nuance for trekkers. Since April 1, 2023, Nepal Tourism Board has required solo foreign trekkers to hire a licensed guide for treks inside national parks and conservation areas, which covers most famous routes; the Everest region's local municipality has said independent trekkers may still enter there, and city or cultural travel anywhere in Nepal needs no guide at all. The newest change actually favours solo travellers: since March 22, 2026, even restricted areas such as Upper Mustang and Manaslu issue permits to solo trekkers, provided a licensed guide comes along, ending the old two-person minimum. The practical summary: explore Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the towns entirely on your own; for the trails, budget USD 25 to 30 a day for a guide and treat it as a safety asset rather than a restriction. Full details are in our guides to trekking permits in Nepal and why a guide is worth it.
