As of 22 March 2026, Nepal removed the rule that required a minimum of two trekkers, so a solo trekker can now obtain the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit individually. A licensed guide, however, remains mandatory at all times. A mandatory, registered, and certified Manaslu Circuit Trek Guide must accompany you at all times while trekking in the Manaslu region.

Manaslu trek without a guide – Why prohibited?

Permits required for the Manaslu trek

However, the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MACP) and Annapurna Conservation Area permit(ACAP) can be obtained from cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit
The area between Jagat and Dharapani is set to be a restricted area by the government as this area is close to Tibet. And the permits for this route can only be applied for via a registered agency. You must have your permit before entering Jagat and keep it until you exit the restricted zone at Dharapani.

- December to August: US 75 per person for the starting 7 days & US $ 10 per person per day after seven days.
- September to November: US$ 100 per person for the starting seven days & US$ 15 per person per day after 7 days.
Manaslu Conservation Area Project(MCAP) permit
Philim is the starting point of MCAP during the Manaslu trek. You can see a welcome board of MCAP in Philim which is at an elevation of 1,590m from sea level.
Regardless of the season, the price for this permit is NPR 3,000 (about USD 23) per person for any number of days.
Annapurna Conservation Area Project(ACAP) permit
Some part of Annapurna falls under the route of the Manaslu trek, which is the reason for acquiring a permit. The price for an ACAP permit is also NPR 3,000 (about USD 23) and is the same throughout the year.
Since 2026 a small local government fee also applies: the Tsum-Nubri (Chumnubri) Rural Municipality permit, NPR 1,000 per person, collected at Jagat.
Tsum Valley permit (Optional)
If you wish to explore the Tsum Valley, you will need a Tsum Valley permit as well.
Tsum Valley is not a part of the Manaslu trek, and you can skip this permit if you have no intention in visiting it. The Tsum Valley restricted permit costs USD 40 per person per week from September to November and USD 30 per week from December to August.
